New Orleans Public Radio joins Birdfoot to “power” Hear Hear NOLA calendar.
HEAR HEAR NOLA – AN ONLINE EVENTS CALENDAR FOR NEW ORLEANS’ GROWING CLASSICAL MUSIC COMMUNITY
Announcing Hear Hear NOLA — a new online calendar of live classical music performances, powered by the Birdfoot Festival in partnership with New Orleans Public Radio (WWNO 89.9 FM and Classical 104.9 FM).
Jazz fans have long had print, online, and broadcast calendars to navigate their way through New Orleans’ live jazz offerings. Now classical music lovers have their own online guide to a scene offering more live performances than ever before. From chamber music to orchestral, instrumental to vocal, traditional to experimental, the variety of classical music performances in our city is remarkable.
“A large part of Birdfoot’s mission is to support and grow New Orleans’ classical music scene. We kept wishing there was a calendar like this both to see what was going on and to help us schedule concerts and events and so we made one. It is really exciting to see how many classical music performances are now taking place throughout the city compared with just a few years ago!” —Tracey Sherry, Executive Director
Hear Hear NOLA is the answer for classical music lovers—a free community resource where New Orleans’ classical music presenters, musicians, and audiences can share information about upcoming classical and art music performance in the Greater New Orleans area in an easy-to-use calendar format. After several years of planning and testing by the Birdfoot Festival, Hear Hear NOLA has been formally launched and is live at its own domain, hearhearnola.org.
Hear Hear NOLA already reveals an exciting and diverse array of live classical music performances—a product of the recent blossoming of New Orleans’ classical music scene with many new ensembles, venues, series, and festivals.
Birdfoot Festival staff will manage Hear Hear NOLA; New Orleans Public Radio will publicize the calendar and put it to use in planning classical selections broadcast on Classical 104.9 FM. User posting accounts are available to classical musicians and presenting organizations by sending an email to info@hearhearnola.org. More information here.
Recognized for its fresh approach and “youthful, rule-bending style,” the Birdfoot Festival brings artists and audiences together to make and experience dynamic chamber music. Inspired by New Orleans’ musical traditions, Birdfoot’s programming includes an annual international festival, artist residencies, a Young Artist Program, and many performances and community events throughout the city.
