Chris Beroes-Haigis

Cello

Chris Beroes-Haigis is a musician who lives in New Orleans. He composes, arranges, records and performs in a range of styles; from the fully notated to the fully improvised. He plays regularly with Chris Christy Quintet, George Elizondo Trio, Meschiya Lake & The Machetes, Sarah Quintana Band, Carmela Rappazzo, Paul Sanchez, and Russell Welch, among many others.

Throughout his time as a student at Bard College and UT El Paso, Chris’s closest musical mentors were composer Joan Tower and cellist Zuill Bailey. He maintains a close connection with El Paso Pro Musica, bringing music to the El Paso/Ciudad Juárez region through live concerts in schools, hospitals and migrant shelters.

Chris was selected as a finalist in both the 2022 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards and the 2022 Catalyst Quartet CQ Minute Competition. Together with guitarist/composer Gabriel Angel Fuentes, Chris recently co-released an album of original music for cello and guitar entitled Cuentista. Upcoming projects include the premiere of a new solo cello and string quartet work commissioned by cellist Cicely Parnas and the recording debut of the newly formed group Zujaj, a trio collaboration with Parnas and oudist/composer Isa Alnajem.
