Help Birdfoot Grow!

Dearest Birdfoot Friends and Fans!

This year, Birdfoot is taking a sabbatical from producing a festival in May. This was a difficult decision for the entire Birdfoot team, however, we know that it was the right decision, because, in a nutshell, good things take time.

There are some years when the best wine makers decide not to release any wine—when weather conditions or the climate are difficult—and instead of fighting forces beyond their control, they use the opportunity to regenerate and invest in the future.

Birdfoot is in such a year, digging the ground and planting seeds for the festival’s next chapter. This can only happen with your help. Your support and enthusiasm have nurtured Birdfoot’s growth over the past 10 years, from a homegrown idea to a thought-leader in classical music.

This year, there is a tremendous amount happening behind the scenes in order to prepare the way for festival’s next decade:

  • Birdfoot is having conversations with the festival’s audience members, musicians, and partners around how to further develop the boldest aspects of Birdfoot’s vision for chamber music post-pandemic.

  • Tracey Sherry, Birdfoot’s founding Executive Director, announced her retirement.

  • The festival launched a search for the Birdfoot’s next Executive Director that has received interest and applications from around the world—showing that Birdfoot’s ideas and New Orleans’s unique culture resonate far beyond the “birdfoot delta”.

  • As we emerge from the pandemic, the festival team is exploring new partnerships and forging several exciting collaborations, in ways that could not have been foreseen even a few months ago.

  • Birdfoot’s Board members recently spent a day carrying boxes and packing a (large) van to move Birdfoot’s office—before celebrating with po-boys. Items that went in the truck included framed posters from each of the festival’s seasons, the giant pot for the festival’s famous welcome crawfish boil, and everything else that goes into running Birdfoot.

  • Birdfoot is planning a special event later this year (watch this space!) to unveil the vision for the festival’s next chapter and to introduce you to our new Executive Director.

  • Best of all, we are planning an ambitious Birdfoot 2023: May 25 – June 3 2023. SAVE THE DATES!

During all this digging and planting for Birdfoot’s next chapter, the festival needs your support more than ever:

Will you help the festival grow towards Birdfoot 2023 and launch Birdfoot’s second decade with a donation?

Heartfelt thanks, in advance, for your support,

Jenna Sherry
