James May
Composer & Late Night curator
James May is a New Orleans-based composer, improviser, and teacher. His work explores texture and space through notated scores, improvisation environments, and electronic media, blending practices of composed classical music with experimental performance. His music is featured on 2022 releases by Stephanie Lamprea and Jamie Monck, won international prizes including the 2019 Seán Ó Riada contest and 2017 San Francisco Choral Artists New Voices contest, and has been commissioned and presented by New Music on the Bayou (Monroe, LA), the Louisiana Music Teachers Association, Will Yager, Western Carolina University, and the University of Louisville. James teaches courses in electronic music at Tulane University.
