Madelyn Kowalski

American cellist Madelyn Kowalski holds BMus and MMus degrees from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she studied with Alison Wells. She was the recipient of an ABRSM International Postgraduate Scholarship and was awarded a Silver Medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians. Madelyn was 2nd prize-winner of the 2018 Concours International de Violoncelle ‘Tremplin’ in Paris, and has won many prizes in both solo and chamber music. She has also received support from numerous UK-based foundations, including the William Syson and Hattori foundations. In recent years, Madelyn has had the honor of performing for King Charles (then HRH Prince Charles), giving the Scottish premiere of Errollyn Wallen’s cello concerto with the RCS orchestra, and performing William Walton’s cello concerto with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

An avid chamber musician, Madelyn has performed recitals with pianist Maurizio Arroyo Reyes, including a broadcast recital for BBC Radio 3 and tours for Chamber Music Scotland. She has participated in festivals including IMS Prussia Cove and Open Chamber Music in the UK, and Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall, and Sitka in the USA, and has performed with Scottish orchestras, the Brodsky Quartet, and the Hebrides Ensemble. Madelyn has worked with cellists including Steven Isserlis, David Waterman, Ralph Kirshbaum, Jean-Guihen Queyras, David Geringas and Antonio Meneses.

This spring, Madelyn will be partaking in a fellowship program at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Madelyn is passionate about animals and treasures any time she can spend with her two German Shepherds at her childhood home on a small island off of Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula. She also enjoys creating watercolor paintings of animals and hopes to write and illustrate a children’s book someday.
