University of New Orleans
The Birdfoot Festival and the University of New Orleans’ Department of Music invite the public to a free Community Concert by the New Orleans-based Polymnia Quartet. This performance, held in the Recital Hall of The Performing Arts Building at The University of New Orleans, will take place February 14th, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. The Polymnia Quartet will discuss and perform works by Philip Glass and Joseph Haydn during this intimate performance.
The Polymnia Quartet was founded in 2015 by New Orleans professional musicians. They perform classical standards and contemporary compositions in non-traditional venues throughout the city.
This concert will conclude the Birdfoot Festival’s Young Artist Program spring educational residency. During this intensive day-long workshop, the Polymnia Quartet and Jenna Sherry, the Birdfoot Festival’s Artistic Director, will coach local student chamber ensembles and present a masterclass. At the end of the workshop, the Polymnia Quartet will perform a free and open to the public hour-long concert for the community at 4–5 PM.
The Birdfoot Festival’s Young Artist Program is supported by a Community Partnership Grant from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and funding from the Foundation for Entertainment Development and Education.
Additional support is provided by a City of New Orleans’ Community Arts Grant and a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of New Orleans.
