Mark A. Growdon 

Co-founder and Past-President of the Birdfoot Festival, Mr. Growdon holds a M.S. in Geophysics from Indiana University, a B.A. in Physics, and a B.Mus. in Flute Performance fr
om Lawrence University and Conservatory. Mr. Growdon has worked in the energy industry for 10 years as a geologist and petrophysicist and is currently based in Houston, TX.

His musical career has developed in a variety of fashions, including performing with wind quintets and in various orchestras and bands. Mr. Growdon has also continued to pursue a passion as a conductor and educator. In 2009 he founded and directed the Northshore Wind Ensemble in Covington, LA. Mr. Growdon’s work took his family to Houston in 2013 where, in 2016, he won the position of Associate Director for the Houston Concert Band. Mr. Growdon additionally performs as flutist for the Houston Concert Band as well as in various chamber music opportunities.

In addition to sharing with his wife in parenting of two very active twin boys, Mr. Growdon enjoys taking advantage of the amazing and diverse culinary and arts scenes that Houston has to offer. He relishes having friends and the Birdfoot Festival to draw the family back to New Orleans each year.
